Background

This training course was developed as a self-paced version of a more intensive, interactive course for formatting and standardisation of coral reef monitoring held in July-August 2021. The aim was to make the training course materials for regional data contributors outside of periodic trainer-led courses.

In order to provide further background to the training materials and guidance of how to use this site, we provide a series of introductory materials that course participants should review to familiarise themselves. Having a basic understanding of this material will help you understand the flow of the course material and the types of skills that you should have at the completion of the course.

The course materials and presentation of the modules will be periodically reviewed by CORDIO East Africa and the Data Standards Working Group of the Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network (GCRMN). Additional pages describing advances and ways to engage with course coordinators will be appended to this module as soon as they become available.

At the end of each training module, we provide a short evaluation that participants should fill out. These evaluations provide you with an opportunity to provide feedback on the material presented and help us ensure the modules deliver valuable skills training.

Please take some time to review the following materials and video introduction. This module should take approximately 20 minutes.
